As the PMI Chennai Chapter Liaison to the PMIEF, I provide a vital communications and activities link between the PMI Educational Foundation and the PMI Chennai Chapter for the purpose of promoting awareness of PMIEF and providing increased value for PMI Chennai Chapter members.

CAC – Champion Advisory Committee

The Champion Program shall be governed by the Champion Advisory Committee. The committee shall be responsible for carrying out the purposes and objectives of the program.

This platform will bring together students, freshers, professionals, corporate houses, academicians and universities enabling them to interact, collaborate, integrate, inspire and illuminate our society.

Nowadays more focus and expectations on flexibility to work in the Agile Environment or during uncertain times. Beyond flexibility, one more skill is getting high demand for our present situation and to future which is evolving. You may curious about what is that skill, it is “Flexing”. In this article, what is flexing? is covered in high level.

Coming days, we are going to have different kinds of future, not easily predictable one to get prepared as we did old way. we will work with different kind of team members and different level of team members. Because team work will happen on the fly, not only with stable team members.

When we work on these kind of environment with different people, we should understand them quickly, that will help us to get along and have proper expectations. some people are visionaries, they come with big picture thinking and see things to be happen for the high impactful areas.

if operational and transactional level things discussed with them, they don’t show the interest and get more disappointed to work, better engage them in such bigger activities and allow them to share their thoughts with others more.

Next set of people give more directions with details, which helps to create more value and bring lot of benefits to the group/team or organizations/institutions, their expertise and strengths should be utilized properly, otherwise they get demotivated to contribute more.

if they are underutilized or not place in proper role and not given proper responsibilities, their engagement level and contribution will not be in the satisfied level. when we work with these kind of people, will be more learnings and get things done easily.

Third set of people are actually drivers, who take the responsibilities to guide and take the group members to different experiences. They need more recognition for their contributions and freedom to learn new things and allow them to explore. They happy to support others and also focus on accomplishing team work.

Last set of people as per my observation, real executors of the actions which are assigned to them and take the initiatives occasionally or whenever required. They just do what given to them and rest of the time like to spend on other activities.

When we understand these different set of people with whom we are working, it will be easy to handle the team work and getting things done from them and deliver the output as a team work.

Within the group/team, Understanding these different set of people (Visionary, Director, Driver, Executer (Real Actioner)) and getting things done through them known as “Flexing”. Let us Grab this skill for successful on the fly teamwork.

In today’s VUCA world, if you are providing service or developing the product, depending certain teams to make customer delight then traditional team work will not help in the long run. As per the observations, people those who are working in team, having a comfort zone to work with specific people and also with whom they already built trust in the long term.

Since they all working on specific objective or one goal, not having the system thinking and getting into other people shoes most of the time. They tend to justify what are the good things they have done and what went wrong was not their responsibility.

Challenge for people those who are facing customer, may not be able to express these things to management and leadership team. Sometimes respective team leaders also support their teams blindly without understanding the challenges in detail.

Teaming enables the people to work with multiple team and get things done quickly by learning their processes and collaborating more whenever required, they will not have hesitant to approach unknown team members for completing activities, which need their expertise.

Teaming helps to come out of fixed mindset of proving own team performance more effective again and again, also get into growth mindset by more collaboration with interdependent teams to accomplish the activities of multiple teams effectively and attain the shared goals.

Sometimes people those who are good in teaming, may jump the boundaries and with good intention of group success rather than team success. During that time we need strong leadership, which takes care of any consequences and commitments.

In coming days teaming has to be embraced more where the delivery or service has more inter-dependencies teams. That gives opportunities for more successful accomplishment of service/product delivery efficiently.
