Bakstage boasts to be one of the oldest and the biggest rock pub in Kolkata, right in the heart of the IT City of Salt Lake in Sector V. The pub being stationed on the 1st floor of the Hotel Beyzaa, to add another feather to our cap, we incepted “Bakstage- The Wine Room” in the year 2014. However, the idea was encrypted with a motive to start Kolkata’s first ever stand alone wine room where connoisseurs and wine-lovers can have a wholesome Wine experience – right from handpicking their own wine, sampling and experimenting it with assorted cheese platters to having a sumptuous feast on a specially curated wine paired food menu. Being an ardent wine-lover myself, the reason behind creating and curating a Wine Cafe was crystal clear for me – being located in the IT hub that enjoys practically the highest consumption of LAB ( light Alcoholic Beverages ) in the city, I wanted the youth to get accustomed to Wine and even change their perception that wines are only for the high-and-mighty. Hence, to make it more accessible and affordable for people to experiment, we decided to keep the prices lower than that of beer, thereby introducing happy hours on select brands – so that the city adapts and acknowledges this new culture of Wine and enjoys and reminisces on it with happy memories for keeps. Being aware of the fact that Kolkata wine market was still at a very nascent stage, my wine-lover spirit in me took over the journey of becoming a wine-preneur by taking this difficult venture in my stride.
Not to forget, I am also an active member of The Kolkata Wine Club – the only registered Wine club in the East.
Being very active socially – Have curated a lot of Wine dinners with ambassadors from different Liquor companies for different organisations which I am a part of – Namely Round Table India / BNI / Launched the APEX wine club local chapter.
