Subodh Shah

A passion for marble and stones that goes back to the start of his career. Originally from Mumbai, India, Subodh comes from four generations of businessmen, all entrepreneurs in their own right. His father was one of the early influencers in India’s cotton and construction industries.

His decision to take experience learned through brothers and him first marble business to the UAE, now affords Subodh the opportunity to develop the sector, covering the wider region, and expanding across a geographic reach that has a high demand for marble.

Graduated from St. John’s University in New York, USA with a degree in computer science, however, taking in to account his family background and tradition, he soon found himself looking after a small granite business his father had started.

Working with a marble expert, Subodh set about transitioning the business away from granite, and moving in to marble, a much more lucrative and in-demand resource. From that, Classic Marble Company was formed in 1994, and now, more than two decades later, Classic Marble Company is regarded as India’s leading producer of marble, the firm holds 15 percent market share out of more than 300 producers.

In 2013 he started to look at the UAE as a base for a new business on hearing that it had been awarded the World Expo 2020. The focus was to take his experience from India, and create a completely new entity that would introduce, produce and supply the Arabian peninsula with the world’s finest marbles, moving on from the traditional colors that are featured in the region.

Subodh regularly travels around the world, sourcing the finest stones, and now supply new and exotic stones from 40 countries. He sees the UAE as a prime base for a marble business and now look to invest in a production facility to further grow the business for the UAE and wider region.
