Sharda Singh

Ms. Singh graduated from Elphinstone College, Mumbai, with a B.A. in Philosophy in 199S. She then worked for a year as a teacher’s aide at the Helen Keller Institute for Deaf and Deaf-Blind.

Ms. Singh decided to train as a teacher and was accepted to the PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) at the Institute of Education, University of London, where she specialized in primary school education. During this intensive program, she became interested in the children in classrooms with emotional difficulties. After graduating in 1997, she was offered a job at the Cotswold Community, which was a therapeutic residential program for boys. The Cotswold Community was built on the attachment theory of British psychoanalyst D.W.Winnicot and this when Ms. Singh became interested in building a career in social services combined with mental health.

By this time her family was living in the US and Ms. Singh relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to be closer to her parents. She worked for 2 years at the Child Guidance Clinic in downtown Philadelphia with adolescents in the inpatient program, then chose to do her graduate education at Bryn Mawr School of Social Work and Social Research for their Master of Social Service clinical track. This prepared her with the necessary skills to work in the field of Community Mental Health as a professional. After graduation, she did a 3 year (part time) Certification in Gestalt Therapy provided by the Gestalt Therapy Institute of Philadelphia.

Ms. Singh then worked in North Philadelphia at the Child Psychiatry Center doing risk assessments for suicidal adolescents in the school district, setting up and running groups for students and families and seeing clients for psychotherapy in the Center’s Outpatient Department. At this time, her alma mater asked her to be the Practicum Supervisor for second year MSS students. This helped her gain additional observation, evaluation and mentoring opportunities.

Wanting to round out her overall skill set with administrative experience, Ms. Singh then worked for another mental health agency – Northern Home Children and Family Services, which provided her the opportunity to manage a team of 50 mental health workers, whose education ranged from master’s level to high school graduation. She also worked with a team the wrote policy and procedures for the agency as well as program development.

After 12 years of East Coast winters, Ms. Singh was ready to live in a country with a year-round warm climate, and moved to Bangkok, Thailand, where her younger brother lived. She joined Psychological Services International, private group practice that provides mental health services to expatriates in the area. She provides individual, family, group, and couples counseling/therapy, specializing in

Adolescents and families, adjustment and phase of life issues, depression, anxiety, cross cultural issues. She also adoption home studies and assessments for international adoptions. In addition to conventional psychotherapy, Ms. Singh is trained in EMDR and Hypnotherapy which are often needed in conjunction with talk therapy.

In her practice over the last 5 years she has seen an increased need for sex therapy for couples that come to her for help. Though familiar with the basics of therapeutic sexual health, she decided to

enroll in a Ph.D. program in Clinical Sexology in 2021 which will also give her a Sex Therapist Certification after the first year.
