Fun facts about the Kingussie distillery and their plans for 2017

The Speyside Distillery is located near Kingussie , a distillery that is even less well known in our countries than, for example, in Asia, where it has its main market. Founded in 1976, it wasn’t until 1993 that it produced its first single malt, Drumguish. In 2012 it got its current owner and repositioned itself with him.

Paul Dempsey , with whom we had our video interview as part of Whiskey Week Vienna last week, is Commercial Director of the Speyside Distillers Company , and tells us about the distillery, its special features, the new bottlings Trutina and Fumare, as well as the expansion plans, which will be implemented in the next year.

    After graduating from a Communications & Journalism course, Paul started his career in the drinks trade in 1997, working in Scotland for one of the USA’s largest wine producers.
    He moved into Spirits in 2002, holding sales and marketing roles with the distributor of several international premium spirits. This involved working with brands such as Grey Goose, Patron, Luxardo & Jagermeister, including assisting in the development of the Jagermeister’s music sponsorship program, working with bands such as Slipknot & Slayer!
    It was during this time that he also began working with whisky producers, including Isle of Arran, Bowmore, Bruichladdich & Suntory. He joined Speyside Distillers as Commercial Manager in 2014 to work with their SPEY & Beinn Dubh whiskies at home and abroad.
    Paul has served as a judge at international spirits competitions around the world, including The World Whiskies Awards in London, The Warsaw Whisky Awards in Poland and at the Spirits Selection (Concours Mondial des Bruxelles) competitions in Mexico, Chile, Bulgaria & China.
