John Kuruvilla, a renowned entrepreneur and mentor, has been involved in numerous successful startups and ventures over the past three decades. He has mentored 99 startups from India and globally, including Jio Gennext and Brigade REAP, which have raised INR 1000s of crores of investment. Kuruvilla has worked across various industries, including advertising, real estate, aviation, hospitality, venture investment, and technology. His greatest learnings came from his failures and working with resilient professionals and entrepreneurs. In 2022, he embarked on a 14,000 km motorcycle ride called ‘Bharat Mala’, inspiring over 7,000 students to become job creators. In 2012, he spent seven nights in the Amazon forest to find answers to his life-threatening illness. Kuruvilla is now working on www.indiajets.in, a startup aiming to disrupt the aviation industry in India.

    My professional journey of close to 3 decades is interspersed with corporate as well as entrepreneurial adventures. Where at every stage in my career I have worked hard to challenge the status quo. With support from encouraging bosses and from family I have been able to test both the limits of my endurance and the patience of those around.
    Needless to add that in most cases the outcomes have been satisfactory to all.
    I have often attempted to balance the journey by ‘ Loving what I did’ & ‘ Doing what I loved’ which is why most part of the 31+ years have been extremely enjoyable whilst being extremely challenging.

    Having moved across industries – Advertising to Real estate to aviation to hospitality to Venture Investment the learnings have been both insightful and phenomenal. I must add that every industry had its own set of challenges and issues and deep diving to understand the finer nuances was both time consuming and arduous.
    My greatest learnings however came from my failures as also working with resilient and highly capable professional and entrepreneurs.
    With an agnostic bent of mind, I set out to chart my own destiny with the belief that the concept of God was akin to a straw in the hands of one drowning, the last ray of hope.
    I could not have been more wrong.

    When we see the despair, misery, injustice and pain all around us, more often than not we question the Existence of God.
    I was the other extreme, from an early age, I knew there was no God. Save in ones’ fragile imagination.
    4+ decades into existence, I set out on a journey of discovery. Captured in the blog below.

     

    “John Kuruvilla” is that name tag that associates with prestigious names like Air Deccan, Oberoi Group of hotels, J Walter Thomson and Lintas (Lowe); a visionary, innovator and out of the box thinker who has successfully launched some of the most popular campaigns till date like Humara Bajaj, Maruti Omni, Toyota Qualis, Air Deccan and has also been the brain behind bringing big brands to India. Born in Jamshedpur & studied from the University of Singapore; john has seen every thick and thin in life and has come out as a winner. From battling Steven Johnson’s syndrome to finding his entrepreneurial venture taggle.com; john is a zenith of 24 years of rigorous experience of courage, strength, will power, and also sales, marketing, brand building, revenue management, customer relations and pricing.

    The rise of his first venture- Propmart Technologies Ltd. 

    In the year 2002, he began with his first-ever venture – Propmart Technologies Ltd. It was an idea to revolutionize the way real estate services were being offered in India to professionalize it. It was a blend of both leverage and technology. The business flourished. It is evident from the fact that in a very short span of time, it became the largest provider in that region. This was also first-time Propmart brought together big names like Leo Burnett, Wrigleys, HSBC, ICICI, and many other real estate businesses under one roof. In 3 years the company had offices in 6 cities and also functioned in 5 Middle East countries – Dubai, Muscat, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
